Delightfully Disney
by Ashley M., Friendswood Junior High student
"We have great programs for kids your age," said Michael
Potyraj, the sales rep for the Walt Disney Corporation, told me as I
interviewed him. He told us about all the superb educational excursions
we might be eligible for.
The offered courses included the Y.E.S, which
stands for Youth Education Series. This series offers K-12 classes
on various park rides, with topics such as life management, arts and
humanities, physical sciences, and natural sciences.
But what REALLY caught
my attention is the 8th Grade Jam, where 8th graders (and their chaperones)
rule the Animal Kingdom. Just imagine: at 8:30 PM, the jam starts with
a free buffet, a night of rockin' with the band Poison Kiss,
and all the rides in the park, left open all night till the fun ends at 1:30
in the morning.
These courses, and especially the Jam, sound fantabulous to
me. And what's
more, they are offered at a discount ticket for student groups (which means
complimentary tickets for the teachers. Wink! Wink!). I'm thinking—the
Magic Kingdom would make for one AMAZING classroom. What kid wouldn't
love a trip to Disney with her classmates? That would be, without
a doubt, one memorable educational experience! |
