Facilitators
Thank you for considering serving as a session facilitator at NMSA's 36th Annual Conference.
As a part of the hospitality team your job is to welcome the attendees and help your presenter(s) and the NMSA Conference staff. Here is what you need to do to become session facilitator.
- View the list of available concurrent sessions online at http://www.nmsa.org/annual/concurrent/index.htm
- Select from the list which sessions you would like to attend. We are not asking you to facilitate sessions, unless you are already planning to attend.
- E-mail Pam Milikan at MILLIKANP@fcsc.k12.in.us with a list of which sessions you would like to attend. Also, please include any limitations. For example, if you would like to limit yourself to facilitating two sessions, let Pam know.
- From the sessions you identified, Pam will assign you to facilitate sessions according to your request.
- You will also receive an e-mail from NMSA with more specific facilitation instructions.
Here is what will be in your facilitator packet:
- A list of how the session room should be set
- A list of audio/visual items that should be in the room
- The name of the presenter(s) for the session
- The presenter's bio (if available)
- The session title
- The CEU code for the session
- Instructions for emergencies
- A session facilitator ribbon to be work on your name badge
When you get to the conference:
- Check in at the facilitator check-in booth in the registration area of the convention center. This is where you will pick up your session and facilitator instructions.
- Arrive in the room for the session about 20 minutes prior to the start of the session.
- Check the room set as compared to what is listed in the packet.
- Check the audio/visual equipment per the list in the packet.
- Let NMSA staff know if there is any problem with the room or audio/visual sets.
- Introduce yourself to the presenter and identify yourself as a facilitator.
- Assist the presenter with distributing handouts if necessary.
- Introduce the presenter at the start of the session (this is not a requirement, but you can do it if you like).
- About 20 minutes after the start of the session, count the number of attendees in the room and record this number in the space provided on your facilitator packet.
- After the session, remind attendees to complete the session evaluation forms in the conference program and leave them in the evaluation box at the back of the room.
- After the session is over, announce the session CEU code and post it somewhere in the room.
- Leave your presenter packet in the evaluation box at the back of the room before you leave.
In case you have any questions throughout the day, there will be a staff person (zone captain) in each area of the facility to help you out. You can contact this person if there is any problem with A/V equipment, room sets, or other issues that need to be addressed.
Thank you for your help in making this the best event possible. We hope you will enjoy the sessions that you attend and gain valuable information that you can use to help improve middle level education for all students.
If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail Doug Herlensky at dherlensky@nmsa.org.
