Indiana Department of Education Waiver

The Indiana Department of Education has approved a waiver for November 6, 2009, for all middle schools to allow for staff attendance at the 2009 National Middle School Association's 36th annual conference, "NMSA09—Making a World of Difference," being held November 5-7 in Indianapolis, Indiana. In February of 2008 the Indiana House of Representatives unanimously passed Resolution 28 encouraging Superintendents to send as many of their middle level educators as possible to this conference.

Because NMSA believes so strongly in the power of sending an entire school staff, a special registration rate of just $149 per teacher is being offered to all Indiana schools that use the waiver and bring their entire staff on November 6. To qualify for the special $149 rate, schools must:

· Apply for and obtain the waiver from the Indiana DOE for Friday November 6
· Be an NMSA member school
· Have at least 20 staff members

Indiana educators can also earn up to 7 CRUs for attending NMSA09.

Important Note: To take advantage of the waiver each middle-configured school must apply through the IDOE. The completed waiver must be either faxed to Dr. George Frampton at 317-232-0855 or mailed to the attention of Dr. George Frampton, IN Dept. of Education, 151 W. Ohio St., Indianapolis, IN 46204. The application is a mandatory part of the process for each school to be listed as having been approved for the waiver. At the end of the 2009-2010 school year the school will be on the approved list for having 179 student school days. For any questions, call Frampton at 317-232-9060. Applications will be approved and returned in an expedient manner. Clarification of the waiver process can also be obtained from the IMLEA office by calling 317-894-2937.
