The Road to Denver

Return

I have taken a couple of weeks off during which time I was treated for a brain tumor (non-cancerous) and became a grandpa for the first time- both significant occurences in my life.  I am now sitting in a session at the FETC conference in Orlando.  FETC is a technology conference and it has me thinking a lot about our upcoming Denver conference.  Alan November, who is our keynote presenter for Thursday evening, has done several very thought provoking sessions here at FETC.

We have added a technology strand and are planning to infuse technology throughout the conference- from start to finish.  It's a big vision and undertaking but we think that we will have many friends to help us make the vision become a reality.

Each of you reading this entry could be helpful in our efforts.  If you know of schools (maybe your own) where significant things are happening with technology, please let me know.  We are looking for schools, teachers and students to feature.

Colorado has made a tremendous effort to bring together teacher-librarians and technology specialists to help all educators understand the importance that information literacy and technology play in a student's success. Through collaboration with classroom teachers and solid instructional design, we integrate technology and 21st century skills into a standards-based curriculum. There are examples of excellence all over the state! I recommend you consult with the Colorado Association of School Librarians (http://casl.wordpress.com) and the TIE Board (http://tieconference.wikispaces.com/) to find out how you might get the word out to innovative middle school teachers, librarians, and technology specialists in Colorado who have great information and examples to share.

Thanks, Nancy, I will certainly follow that lead. If you have a contact there please let me know.

I also invite others to send along tips about progressive schools that could help us out.

Hey Al---
We had about 6 of our Tech/Curriculum teachers at the FETC---I should have had them look you up.
I have found a few other sources to publicize Middle Level Essentials, the GREAT conference scheduled for MN April 4 and 5---and will be sending several of my middle level "core teams"---we are in the process of redesigning our 6-12 program preparing to open a third middle school and a second high school in Fall 2009.

I knew there were some MN folks there, but did not realize they were from your district. I thought I was doing well- getting out of a very cold week in Columbus, OH. They did even better- getting out of a very, very cold week in Chaska, MN.
The MLE conference in Minneapolis in April- where else can you get Carol Ann Tomlinson and Janet Allen on the same ticket??
